Museum Tromp´s huys

Ancient history museum

The museum is housed in the oldest surviving building in East Vlieland. Its core was built shortly after 1575 and consisted of cellar, room and attic.

In 1896, Gooswinus and Betzy Akersloot-Berg bought the house and named it Tromp´s Huys. They had the studio apartment built at the back of the garden, which still stands today. After Betzy died in 1922 and Gooswinus in 1929, housekeeper Jet Visser inherited the house and its contents from the childless couple. After her death in 1955, the house was bought by the municipality of Vlieland to turn into a museum.

In the years 1958-1959, the house was restored, and on 15 June 1960, the Tromp´s Huys museum was opened.
Since 2001, Vereniging Hendrick de Keyser has owned the property, as well as the old Raadhuys and the old Lifeboat Barn.
