Vlieland Old Cage

On Vlieland is a duck decoy in a special forest called: the Oude Kooi.

The duck decoy is located between Pad van 20 and the Posthuys and is sheltered in an old forest.

You can easily cycle to it via the Postweg.

In 2010, Staatsbosbeheer restored one of the duck decoy's trapping arms.

This gives a good picture of how a duck decoy used to work.

The area is freely accessible.

The forest surrounding the duck decoy provides shelter for all the water birds.

The old trees give a fairytale atmosphere.

The area is very humid and therefore has special vegetation.

Many special ferns grow there.
